Study Abroad Policy

  •  Study Abroad Application   All study abroad applications are made through the Study Abroad Office. Students will complete a Marywood University application first and obtain approval from the Study Abroad office before applying to the overseas institution.
  •  Student Status While Abroad  Students who wish to participate in a study abroad program and retain their Marywood student status, must choose a program on the Marywood University Study Abroad Program List.
  •  Cost of Study Abroad  It is Marywood University Study Abroad Policy that the student will pay Marywood University tuition, general & study abroad fees and cost of housing when studying abroad. The student will be responsible for the cost of insurance, meals, fees, transportation, books & supplies and personal expenses. The student is permitted to make use of their financial aid, including scholarship and grants as indicated by their financial aid package. Students should meet with the Associate Director for International Affairs to outline the specific costs of their program before meeting with the Financial Aid office who will further clarify their costs prior to travel.
  •  Form Completion Before Travel  Students must have all courses that they plan to take abroad approved by their Advisor, Department Chairs, as necessary, the Study Abroad Associate Director and finally by the Marywood Registrar office prior to their study abroad program.  All Application and Enrollment Forms (including fully approved Transfer of Credit forms) on the Marywood Study Abroad website must be completed no later than two-weeks before travel.  If the student does not have these complete, he/she will be WITHDRAWN from the study abroad program yet will be responsible for all non-recoverable costs that are associated with it.
  • Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance    Marywood University study abroad knows that life can be unpredictable, so some students may wish to purchase trip cancellation and/or interruption insurance for their study abroad program. Such insurance plans may provide financial protection in the event that a student must unexpectedly cancel or interrupt their educational program, and having it may prevent unforeseen circumstances from presenting a substantial financial loss for students who must later withdraw from a program to which they are committed. While Marywood SA does not require students to purchase this insurance, all study abroad participants are advised to consider purchasing it, as is not included in the GeoBlue health insurance coverage provided by Marywood. Please read policies carefully before purchasing insurance so that you know exactly what is and is not covered. While Marywood does not endorse any particular company, a few examples of online vendors where trip cancellation policies can be purchased are included below.

    InsureMyTrip
    Allianz travel insurance
    AIG Travel Guard
    Travelex Insurance

  • U.S. State Department Travel Advisory   In general, students are not permitted to participate in study abroad programs in a country where the United States State Department has issued a Travel Warning noted under Category 4 "Do Not Travel" (as opposed to an Advisory-Categories 1-3).
