Spring Break Trip to the marvelous Italian city of Orvieto. Experience the most popular theatre of the Renaissance, commedia dell’arte, which is still performed today both in traditional and modern forms. This course will focus on its value for training the body in action, and will include history of commedia, workshops in use of mask and development of physical character, and basic Italian conversation that will be used in the commedia scenes developed by students with the aid of commedia masters Angelo Crotti and Andrea Brugnera. The course teacher at Marywood is David Zarko. Lingua Si in Orvieto (Umbria) is a highly regarded institute for the study of Italian language and culture, and is our academic partner in Italy. The course is of value to all students interested in theatre, movement, Italian culture, and physical expression.
